Chalcopyrite is also known as Peacock Ore because of its lovely iridescent green, blue, pink, purple, and gold colors that resemble the feathers of a peacock. The colors of Chalcopyrite come from the oxidation of copper and iron in the crystal. It’s a common mineral that can be found in most sulfide deposits. This is why Chalcopyrite’s abundance makes it the most significant source of copper ore. The name Chalcopyrite is from the Greek words khalkosor chalkos, which means copper and pyrite, and also strike fire. Chalcopyrite has a hardness of 3.5 to 4, and it’s commonly found in Mexico, Peru, and Australia. This crystal has a unique character and color, which makes it an essential part of any crystal collection!
